Thursday I woke up from a dream. The dream was I was in a cooking show and had to sucessfully make it through a contraction in order to get an ingredient. I woke up at 3:30 after only two hours of sleep. Went to the bathroom and thought "I think my water is leaking"
I decided to go sit in the living room, because if it wasn't real Mario would have to go to work that night.
Contractions 5 minutes apart, 60-80 seconds, from the get go. Nothing painful just "there". I called first nurse and told her I think my water broke and she told me to go in. I went to tell Mario it was time and he said "are you sure?" "Yup!" "Okay, just a little bit longer" and he goes to roll over to go to sleep again! "Mario I'm serious, I called the nurse and she told me to go in." He finally got up.
We got to the hospital about 6:45, did the monitoring and were set free to labor however I wished. I started walking. AWFUL! Contractions lasting 90 seconds about 15 second apart! NO WAY! I laid in bed, hated it! Couldn't move at all! Finally my midwife came in and checked me. 4 cm and fully dilated. It was about 9 by that time. I honestly couldn't tell you, time flew so fast!
Then I asked the midwife what I could do, she suggested a bath. They ran me a bath and I LOVED it! I literally had 35-45 minutes basically "contraction free". Mario actually had time to go home and get the suitcase! And yes I was calm enough to let him leave :)
Mario got back to the hospital and things really picked up. I couldn't tell you the length nor duration of the contractions. I laid in that tub with my eyes shut, moaning, groaning, screaming, hitting the sides of the tub until the nurse came in and asked me if I was pushing. "NO but I WANT to!" She checked me I was 7-8 cm at 11:30 am. I looked at Mario and one contraction later I hit the side of the tub so hard the jacuzzi turned on without pushing the button! The nurses came in a long with my midwife, I said "I want to push!" They told me I have to get out of the tub, they aren't insured to do water births. I told them I couldn't move. That's when the nurse got ballsy. "You cannot have this baby in this tub, get up!" I lifted myself out of the tub, Mario said like a really mad person and practically ran to the bed. My midwife checked me ready to go! I pushed for less than 10 minutes and Mario Alejandro was born! One minor stitch and that's the story!
Stats: Mario Alejandro, 6 lbs 14 oz, 20 in 11:41 am Jan 29, 2009.
